El presente artículo reflexiona acerca de la permanente referencia de la teología al Misterio de Dios. Esta referencia advierte frente a cualquier reduccionismo de la teología a un racionalismo, mostrando la finalidad salvífico-pastoral que le es inherente a la teología. Esta realidad válida para la teología universal ha tenido en América Latina un desarrollo privilegiado a partir del Concilio Vaticano II, como una teología en cuya raíz se encuentra el binomio contemplación-compromiso, configurando una espiritualidad liberadora que ha caracterizado el quehacer teológico y la pastoral en Latinoamérica.
