Este artículo surge de la investigación realizada por el grupo de Investigación Gustavo Gutiérrez O.P., Teología Latinoamericana, y el grupo Ethikós, ambos de la facultad de Teología de la Universidad Santo Tomás, cuyo objetivo era sistematizar e interpretar la producción teológica de las revistas indexadas de las Facultades de Teología de Co-lombia, México, Perú, Chile, Argentina y Brasil, con el fin de elaborar un diagnóstico epistemológico de lo que se ha producido en los últimos 10 años. Se desarrolló un pro-ceso de investigación cualitativa mediante el análisis de las tendencias investigativas de cada país, con la aplicación del programa Atlas-Ti.
