Abstract

The content of this article refers to the so-called “theology of the people”. In this sen-se, its purpose is to clarify three fundamental points: a) the nature of the “theology of the people” (starting point and fundamental category that manages -people-); b) philosophy, beyond marxism and hermeneutics, which works as a budget: roman-ticism; c) the incompatibility of this theology (actually, ideology) with the common faith of the Catholic Church. For Scannone, the “theology of the people” does not have as purpose the search of the truth: its purpose is to be a theoretical instrument at the service of the cause of the poor.
