Abstract

Fundamental theology which wants to meet the challenges of a postsecular society will see herself as an interpeter of Christian truth between believers, believers belonging to other religions and non-believers. She will work on the "cognitive dissonances" which exist between the traditional faith and modern society, as Jürgen Habermas suggested, and will be inspired by the ideas of Vatican Council II which consist above all in the ability to participate, to have dialogue, to read the "signs of the time" and to translate diff erent religious and secular languages. In this spirit fundamental theology will be an intellectual instrument for justifying the Christian faith n the "agora" of our time.
