Abstract

The main ethical concern in a technoscientific society is the responsibility with which the environment is manipulated and the consequences that may arise from excessive or careless treatment. Hans Jonas advocates for the freedom of our actions as the primary axis through which we responsibly relate to the world. In the following article, we will discuss the power and duty of humans under the lens of responsibility, and ultimately, the ontological revaluation of Nature and the preservation of being in this new ethical horizon that Jonas posits as the new heart of the ethics of the future. Some of the key questions will be: What happens with the prognosis of the consequences of an action for humanity and Nature? What is responsibility and how do we talk about it? How many mistakes and trials can we afford in a chain of technological events where the future of humanity and its dignity as an essential condition are at stake?
