LAY SPIRITUALITY FOR THE 21st CENTURY

Lay spirituality is called today to respond to the signs of the present and to assume these challenges with creativity, prophecy and audacity. The first part of this article is about God’s Kingdom announced by Jesus and Vatican II. They are foundations of lay spirituality when it responds to this context. The second part emphasizes in some aspects indispensable to feed lay spirituality: evangelical freedom, gratitude, popular religiosity, etc., but in the first place, the preferential option for the excluded. Finally, everybody is called to encourage this lay spirituality to counteract the involutions of some Church sectors.
