This work highlights some critical elements of Jesus’ message. Against the general background of Matthew’s Gospel, a study is made of Mt 9:18-26, under the instru-ments of history, sociocultural approach together with the religious context, to establish some central elements of the early Christian message regarding compliance (con-struction), tension (exegesis-hermeneutics) and rupture (deconstruction, novelty) with the received Jewish tradition. We show how in this brief story Jesus, through his word and actions, challenges the Torah’s interpretation made by scribes and phari-sees.
