The Revista de Filosofía UCSC publishes research articles, translations and book reviews in Spanish, English and French. Manuscripts are submitted through the journal’s platform and must comply with these guidelines and with the journal’s editorial policies, in particular Integrity, Originality and Authorship, Use and Limits of Artificial Intelligence and Open Access and Copyright. The stages and timelines of the evaluation are described in the Editorial Process and Peer Review policy.

Types of Contribution

Research articles present an original contribution to philosophical discussion, with a clearly identifiable thesis or aim and an argumentative development that engages with the sources and with the relevant scholarly literature. They are between 5,000 and 10,000 words long, including notes and references. They begin with an introduction and end with conclusions, and their intermediate sections may be titled freely. Sections are numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, from the introduction to the conclusions, and subsections with decimal numbering (2.1, 2.2).

Translations present an unpublished version of a philosophical text whose translation is relevant for its study or discussion, or a duly justified new version. They must identify the original edition used and include, where appropriate, an introduction or a critical apparatus that contextualizes the text. On submission, authors must show that the original work is in the public domain or attach the rights holder’s authorization to translate it and publish it in open access under the journal’s license. Their length, including the introduction, must not exceed 10,000 words, unless otherwise agreed in advance with the Editorial Team.

Book reviews examine recent philosophical works, preferably published within the three years preceding submission. They must not be limited to summarizing the work, since their purpose is to reconstruct its main claims, to situate it within its author’s intellectual development or within the philosophical problem to which it belongs, and to offer a critical and reasoned assessment of its contributions and limitations, in dialogue with other relevant works. They are no longer than 3,000 words and open with the complete reference of the reviewed work, written in accordance with the journal’s Citation Guidelines and followed by the number of pages and the ISBN. Citations follow those same guidelines; after the first full note, passages of the reviewed work may be indicated by page number in parentheses. Book reviews are not subject to peer review but to the editorial evaluation established in the Editorial Process and Peer Review policy.

Preparing the Submission

Articles and translations are evaluated under double anonymity and are submitted in two Microsoft Word (.docx) documents. The identification document contains the title of the work, the full name of each author, their institutional affiliations with city and country, their email address, their ORCID identifier if they have one, the acknowledgements and the declarations required by the Integrity, Originality and Authorship policy. The anonymous document contains the complete work and must not include names, affiliations, acknowledgements, references to projects or any other identifying information, including in the file properties. In that document, references to the authors’ own work are written in the third person. Book reviews are not anonymous and are submitted in a single document with the author’s details and declarations.

Research articles include a title, an abstract of up to 150 words and up to five keywords in the language of the article and, if that language is not English, also in English. The abstract presents the problem, the thesis or aim, the approach and the main conclusions of the work. Translations and book reviews include their title in the language of the text and in English.

Author details are also entered on the platform during submission, and affiliations are selected from the ROR registry when the institution is listed there. Authors are encouraged to provide an ORCID identifier; its absence does not prevent evaluation or publication. The declarations concern the use of generative artificial intelligence, conflicts of interest and funding and, in multi-authored works, also authorship contributions according to the CRediT taxonomy. In the published version they are included in a final section placed after the reference list.

Works must be unpublished within the meaning of the Integrity, Originality and Authorship policy. Under that policy, a work derived from a thesis, a conference paper or another academic document may be considered if it constitutes a substantial reworking and identifies its original source. Nor is the prior deposit of a version in a repository or preprint server considered a previous publication. In both cases, this circumstance must be reported in the comments to the Editorial Team, with the corresponding reference or link.

All contributions include a final reference list. Citations and references are governed by the journal’s Citation Guidelines, based on the notes and bibliography system of The Chicago Manual of Style. For evaluation, any recognized citation system is accepted, provided that it is applied completely and consistently, and the accepted version must conform fully to those guidelines.
