Abstract
What could contemporary philosophy gain from reading letters written by others two thousand years ago? Why are there philosophers, including avowed atheists, who highlight the importance of Paul of Tarsus to philosophy? These are some of the questions that guide the reader from the outset through Dr Ole Jakob Løland’s *The Apostle of the Atheists*. The main theme of this work is the reception of Pauline thought in contemporary philosophy. This immediately raises a series of questions. Firstly, how did Paul come to be so relevant to contemporary thought? Secondly, what forms does this reception take? And, thirdly, what consequences do the interpretations of Paul that have been made have for philosophy?
