Abstract

Nietzsche gives rise to the duplicity of the terms that he called the Apollonian and the Dionysian, making, in turn, a journey of deep philosophical and philological content in his youth work entitled: The birth of tragedy. The present work aims to reflect through the distinction and opposition between these two concepts carried out by the young Nietzsche in said work, as well as to investigate the Greek tragedy as the historical event in which both the Apollonian and the Dionysian they coexist harmoniously thanks to a miraculous act of the Hellenic will (Nietzsche, 2014), trying in turn to answer the question about the birth of the Attic tragedy. Then, emphasis will be placed on the subsequent decadence of the tragedy through authors of the stature of Euripides, and on how the figure of Socrates affects this event, finally trying to answer the question about the decadence of the Attic tragedy.
