Education in context of confinement and its contribution to social reintegration

The present paper addresses right of education of persons deprived of their liberty and how this right is recognized by the legal regulations as a factor that benefit the process of social reintegration. Consequently, the national penitentiary regulation has included to education as an element to measure progress of convicts in this process, and so access to a number of rights and benefits. For this end, will be necessary to analyze how education produces an effective impact on recidivism and in the way that the Chilean public education system has considered the context of confinement in development of the educational public policy in the recent modification of the Law of General Education ("Ley General de Educación").
