Abstract

The main axis ofthe present article is to elucidate the issues ofthe bilateral Mexican-Chilean agenda during the first decade of the XX century, emphasizing the joint project of establishing a direct and regular line of sea navigation in the Pacific Ocean, in arder to create commercial ties between both nations. The study was made through the analysis of the correspondence from both chancelleries, to preve that the need of new markets and paths of communications and transports united -momentarily- two very distant nations in ajoint effort, and that the project diluted because of the lack of the necessary conditions, since the Mexican government gave priority to the use of its infrastructure, the Tehuantepec train.
