Abstract

A study on landing statistics of chondrichthyans in Chile is made. The first landing records were dated in 1959. The species considered are: Alopias vulpinus (Bonnaterre, 1788); Isurus oxyrinchus Rafinesque, 1809; Galeorhinus galeus (Linnaeus, 1758); Mustelus mento Cope, 1877; Prionaceglauca (Linnaeus, 1758); Raja. spp. and Callorhynchus callorhynchus (Linnaeus, 1758). The landings by species, by year and by political región were analyzed. Also, the problem of the taxonomic determination of the specimens entering the stahshcs is discussed.
