Abstract

A study on the age and growth oí the mussel Mytilus edulis platensis d'Orbigny, 1846 of the San José Gulf, Argentine (64° 36'S, 42° 24'W) was performed according to three techniques: a) Petersen method; b) marked animáis; c) growth rings, fitting the data to the Von Bertalanffy model (Ricker, 1975). The methods were well correlated, although some constraints of the Petersen's method were constated when the discrimination of monocohort groups was difficult.
