An outstanding adaptation of Leptonotus blainvillianus is the prcscncc of male parental caro, cach male bears an upen ventral breeding pouch before the tail. among other dimorphic adaptations. This study contributes to the knowledge of reproductive features. as well as its dimorphism and characteristics of eggs and larvac of the Chilean pipefish belonging to Family-Syngnathidae. The spccies is frequently caught among Coastal red algal beds known as "pelillo" {Gracilaria verrucosa). between Hornitos (Chile) and Golfo Nuevo (Argentina). Sixty-six. 10% formalin fixed (or 70% alcohol fixed) spccimcns. captured between 1961 and 1985 were studied. AH were caught between Golfo de Arauco to Isla Nalcayec. in Chile. Morphomctric and mcristic features in adults. juveniles and larvae were reviewed, as well as the main pattern of eggs. including embryos. Adults of L. blainvilUanus showed a marked sexual dimorphism and a standard length from 129 lo 230 mm.
