Abstract

This note summarizes Information about ancient “loco” Concholepas concholepas extractions in the Central zone of Chile (preceramic and ceramic periods). The artisanal fishery art know as “plancha", “plancheta" or "planchón" is described and illustrated. This art was used by artisanal fishermen of the Central Chile from around 1930 to 1960 and is still sporadically used in isolated coves of this pan of the country. A bibliographic review regarding the etymological origin of the word “loco" is included.
