Abstract

In recent years, school dropout rates in Chile have remained constant over time. To reduce these rates, the vision of educational communities is essential. The objective of this research is to analyze the conceptualizations around school dropout and educational retention of the Institutional Educational Projects of 31 public and private-subsidized schools of the Valparaíso commune, through qualitative content analysis. The findings reveal that schools understand educational retention as an indicator and school dropout as a problem, however, there is little explicit reference to these phenomena and how to address them.
