Abstract

An age and growth study was carricd out on (he kingklip. G. b ¡acodes. base upon readingof thc annual growth rings in the saccular
otolith. Monthly samples were collecicd during 1984 in ihc sur-austral fishery area and 3.720 otolith pairs were cxanjined. The annual deposition of an opaque and an hyaline ring were observed with a hight correlation between the fish length and otolith radium. Sexual differential growth occurred. with up to 16 rings in female and 13 rings in males. Growth parameters based upon the "spcaal" and “general” Bertalanffy growth models were determined by different methods. The best length growth fit was obtaneid with the non-lineal methods in both sexes.
